The Criminal Court has sentenced the prime suspect in the so-called ‘Fintas Group’, Hamad Al-Haroon to 10 years in jail with hard labor and also sentenced in absentia three other Kuwaitis who helped him escape, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Fintas Group was discovered when security forces arrested a demonstrator at the ‘Erada Square’ and at the time of arrest found in his possession slanderous and false information and provocations against the security sources on his mobile phone.
Thirteen people, including lawyers, media figures and others are accused in the case. Earlier it was reported the ‘suspects’ were charged with undermining public order, abusing the authority of HH the Amir, inciting others to create panic, spreading rumors, interfering in the work of the judiciary and humiliating judges.
The sources also said one of the lawyers was arrested for participating in an unauthorized rally and during interrogation the security authorities gathered a lot of information from him including personal telephone numbers of some people who are involved in illegal activity.
The sources said these crimes fall within the scope of the State Security and carry a punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment and in some cases even capital punishment.
The National Assembly had unanimously approved the proposal submitted by 29 lawmakers to refer file of the Fintas Group, which was suspected of engaging in conspiracy activities, to the Public Prosecution. The purported objectives of the Group included destabilizing national security and incite conflicts in an attempt to collapse the entire system.
