On 15 April, from 2 to 7 pm at American University of Kuwait, Toastmasters will actively vying for the best speaker title in four different categories in Toastmasters Area 19 annual contests, aptly titled ‘Eloquence Unplugged’.

Area 19 Toastmasters, comprising of four clubs, namely, ACK, Arifjaan Articulators, Timbre Talkers and Kuwait Mentors and Coaches, have more than 100 members.  Two contestants from each of the four clubs will compete in four categories, namely, international, humorous, table topics and evaluation speeches.  Two best speakers from each category will be selected by an eminent panel of judges and will move on to contest in the division level which will be held on the 29 April.

Area 19 Director Alifiya Lakdawala while making arrangements for the event along with her team said, “Toastmasters contests provide a great opportunity to witness creativity at its best, for all those who want to improve their communication and leadership skills.  We extend a warm welcome to one and all to the Eloquence Unplugged event.

Toastmasters movement started from humble beginnings in 1924 at the basement of Young Men’s Christian Association(YMCA) in California, USA.  Ralph C. Smedley held the first meeting of what would eventually become Toastmasters International (TMI) on 22 October, 1924.

TMI has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience.

Toastmasters, being a non-profit organization, provides a self-phased learning environment at a very negligible cost, for people to hone their skills through feedbacks and encouragement and without the fear of failure.  The qualifications earned at Toastmasters are held in high regard in business circles.

There are around 50 English and Arabic speaking clubs in Kuwait. More than 500 people enjoy their journey as a toastmaster in Kuwait. For more information log on to  Membership enquiries can be made to 9955 9684.
