The Director of the Fitness and Rehabilitation Center at Dasman Diabetes Institute, which was established by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, Dr. Fahad Al- Ghimlas had announced the completion of the 4th version of the fitness and education program for center under the slogan ' Be Dasmani' .
Dr. Al-Ghimlas mentioned that the program includes educational lectures about the exercise and its importance to a patients with diabetes, especially Type 2, and how possibly is it to combat or control it by changing the lifestyle of the individual in the society. This is done through a comprehensive assessment to subscribers through an intensive and advanced tests include full clinical examination as well as blood and urine tests, cardiogram, and body composition testing.
The program also contains an integrated heart-and-lung stress testing to assess the efficiency of the body systems to work during stress. The participants are also evaluated in terms of their dietary program, based on which they benefit from nutritional counseling. They also attend lectures individually and as a group for diabetes and its symptoms and risks and means of combat and control it. In addition, the program includes daily exercise workshops for the muscles and joints.
This is extended for a month during which daily checks of vital functions and measuring the level of blood sugar take place before and after exercise. Dr. Al-Ghimlas reported that the most recent version also offered to the participants group and individual lectures about psychological wellbeing of the diabetic patient and how to deal with the long-term illness.
The program, which began on Tuesday, 12 May 2014, is overseen by a cadre of specialized medical doctors, nurses, specialists in exercise, nutrition and psychology. Educational brochures were distributed to the participants to enrich the awareness about the disease and how to deal with it through a healthier lifestyle.
Dr. Al-Ghimlas also added that the program is open for the public and will be repeated frequently in the future to provide this exceptional service to the largest possible number of people with diabetes.
