Kuwait Chapter of FOSA (Farook College Old Students’ Association) held a workshop on ‘Parenting is not a Magic but Wonder’ by renowned sociologist, writer and counselor Dr. N.P. Hafiz Mohamad at Kuwait Medical Association Hall, Jabriya on 13 February, 2015. The function started with a recitation of the holy Qur’an by Basit Ashraf, and the inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mohammed Rafi, President of FOSA Kuwait. Riyas Ahmed, General Secretary welcomed the gathering.
FOSA honored Dr N.P. Hafiz Mohamad by presenting him with a memento from Ayoub Kecheri, Regional Director of Grand Hyper Market Kuwait. The Felicitation speech was delivered by Siddique Valiyakath, President of FIMA, Kuwait.
Dr N.P Hafiz Mohamad started the presentation by discussing the present scenario of Gulf parenting with its challenges, and underlined the various problems generally observed among gulf parents. Many parents are unable to resolve many issues with their adolescent children, particularly finding it difficult to control mobile and internet abuse. Frequent conflicts took place when parents interfere in their children's online life.
Moreover, Gulf parents who bring their children with them fail to build a relationship and consequently are miserable when the children are sent back to India. In gulf countries, there are no efficient intervention programs to resolve many of their issues like parent child conflict, adolescent love affairs, problems in goal setting and career guidance. When the parents try to get emotionally involved in any behavioral problems their child exhibits, the situation is worsened. As such expat organizations ignore the burning issues and do not organize any effective programs to resolve the tension. He appreciated FOSA for taking up the challenge by organizing this interactive session in the workshop, which will guide and advise parents on the subject.
A team of FOSA members, Ahmed Koya KV, Basheer Batha, Imtiaz CEV, Rameez, Ashraf Mohammed Vakath, Ashraf Moosa, Subair MM, Haneef Mohammed, Dr Mustafa and Kamal Koshani were on at forefront of the family meet that filled with fun and games. Asharaf .P.T expressed the vote of thanks to the participants and Grand Hyper Market, Royal City Clinic and Asharaf & Co, for sponsoring the program.
